Louisville native was a first-team All-Colorado honoree as a senior

BOULDER - Colorado head coach JR Payne announced the addition of Peyton Carter for the 2017-18 season on Monday. Carter is currently a senior at Monarch High School in Louisville, Colorado.

"We are so happy that Peyton will be staying home in Colorado to be a Buff next year," Payne said. "Peyton has been coming to Coors Events Center since she was a little girl and I believe she was destined to be a Buff from the beginning. She is a very smart basketball player, who is always looking to make her teammates better and will bring an incredible work ethic with her to CU. Peyton can flat out shoot the ball and will be able to stretch the defense with her long range shooting ability as well as push the ball in our up-tempo style offensively."

She was named first-team all-conference, first-team USA All-Colorado and honorable mention Class 5A all-state as a senior when she averaged 15.8 points, 3.5 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 2.1 steals. She led Monarch to a 16-7 record and a trip to the state tournament as the No. 10 seed. Carter scored in double figures 20 times with a season-high of 26 against Rocky Mountain on Feb. 14.

As a junior, Carter averaged 15.2 points and 4.0 assists to earn first-team all-conference.  She helped the team to the state tournament semifinals as a sophomore, averaging 5.5 points. She played a key role in the postseason that year, hitting seven consecutive free throws at the end of the team's Sweet 16 win to clinch the victory. Altogether, Carter was four-year letterwinner at Monarch.

Also an excellent student, she was named first-team Academic All-State as a junior and senior. She's also a member of the National Honor Society.

With the Boulder Rockies AAU team, Carter led the team to a number of championships. In 2016, the Rockies won the Nike national championship in Washington D.C. and the USJN Mountain West championship. Her team also won those two tournaments in 2015. She was named to all-star teams at the Windy City Classic and the Blue Star Nationals tournament.
